Am I the only one that thinks working nights is crazy? My schedule includes working 12 hour night shifts and although thats what I signed up for when I got into the health field...is it crazy to be selfish and only want to work days?
I dont mind them in the fact that its not as busy, no physicians to deal with and I can get some reading done, but it honestly is screwing up my health. At first I didnt think it would matter, but on the night shifts I dont get alot of sleep, I dont get things done, no exercise, and definately do not eat right. Hence, the problem of feeling like crap on a regulare basis and not being able to lose weight.
So, the question is...after going to school and sacrificing..is it selfish to want to work a normal work shedule for once? After all, I am no spring chicken...pushing 40 and soon I will be asleep over the hill....zzzzzzzzzzzz. I have come to the conclusion that I suck at doing nights, I feel like my health is going down the hill fast.........Hmmmmmm.
Dont pick the blue ones...hee hee. My day started with some sudden left shoulder pain which intensified and I realized I should go to the dr. Of course thinking it would just be some muscle pain (several past car accidents) I grabbed my pain killers and muscle relaxers out of the medicine cabinet (which I havent taken for about a year) and headed off to the walk in clinic. By the time I got there I couldnt breath, my vision doubled and I started to black out. So off to emerg I go. I stayed calm knowing it would make it worse (after all I tell my patients that...so I should follow my own advice) and they were looking to see if I was having a PE (pulmonary embolism).
My tests were good, no clots. The xrays looked good. My blood pressure was really low for me....98/58 and the pain wouldnt let up. So they hit me with some IV meds after one vein blew...I had some tegretol....then some morphine. That finally took the edge off and my sister drove me home. As far as they could figure I have some inflammation in my chest wall that is causing the pain and pressure. Nothing lots of T3s and muscle relaxers cant fix. I cant function on those so I will see how it goes. I have steady pain, but hell, as long as I know I am not having a stroke or heart attack...well on I march.....lol. Glad to be in Canada and have my health care!!!!!
